[PenDems (46)]

Thank you, one and all, for your wonderful Black Hills welcome to all our guests this last weekend.

The State Central Committee met in Rapid City on Saturday morning.  This is the governing board of the South Dakota State Democratic Party made up of four representatives from each county across the state.  The group heard about the State Partnership Initiative, which is designed to bring our organizing efforts into the 21st century with technology to match our neighbor-to-neighbor outreach.

Oktoberfest was a great success with our elected Democratic speakers Public Utilities Commissioner Steve Kolbeck and State Senator Tom Katus.  A special thanks to Terri and Haven Stuck for hosting us at their barn.  And thanks to our social committee, headed by Suzanne Martley and Erin Van Norman, and the many volunteers who cooked, brought salads and helped with organizing the event.

The McGovern Interview was history in the making!  Senator McGovern never fails to spell bind the audience with his story-telling.  His grassroots organizing strategies were never more relevant as we begin our organizing for the 2008 campaign.  (This second of a three part series will be taped and available for future viewing.)

Join us at a reception, wishing Lesley Kandaras farewell as she leaves her spot as West River Director for Representative Stephanie Herseth Sandlin to join her office in Washington, D.C.

Friday, October 5th

[PenDems (45)] We got pictures

  Pendemorandum

We got pictures!

We had a great meeting at the potluck at the Labor Temple last week.

Some of the topics covered:
- State of the State Party from Rick Hauffe, SD Dem Party Exec Director
- Introduction of Jane Murphy, recently brought on as West River Dem organizer!
- The national Neighbor to Neighbor organizing and data-building effort
- The 2011 plan -- if 2% of Democrats in SD could give and average of $11 a month, we could avoid debt, and run strong all the way to 2011 (when redistricting happens--if we have a strong presence in the Legislature then, we can ensure Democrats have a voice in South Dakota in the long term). A solid funding base will mean that any other donations will be more effective in getting Democrats elected.

We have pictures of the event posted on the Pennington County Democratic Party blog. There are also pictures of the Oktoberfest there!!
