[PenDems (284)] Whoa!

Problems reading this e-mail? View it in your browser.

South Dakota Democratic Party

Dear Friend,

Last week, we asked each of you to join our final statewide effort to refer House Bill (HB) 1230 to the ballot of the 2012 General Election. HB 1230 is Governor Daugaard's plan to take $16 million a year from education and heath care for corporate giveaways.

What you all accomplished for our Democratic Day of Action on Saturday was simply inspiring:

  • 700 signatures in Sioux Falls
  • 400 signatures in Brown County
  • 200 signatures in Huron,
  • 200 signatures in Vermillion
  • 200 signatures in Pierre
  • 200 signatures in Brookings
  • 150 signatures in Yankton
  • 150 signatures in Watertown
  • 90 signatures in Madison
  • 80 signatures in Spearfish
  • 60 signatures in Mitchell
  • 50 signatures in Rapid City

Still Have Petitions? Send Them Our Way Today!

With volunteers from Belle Fouche to Beresford sending hundreds more, you lifted us all from 13,000 total signatures collected 7 days ago to 18,000 today! You have proved what Democrats can do when we stand together.

For everyone who still has petitions, please send them in today! We are submitting all of our petitions on June 27th, and every signature you all turn in before that helps secure our position to get this on the ballot.

Thank you all for your effort. Together, we'll stop Republicans from gutting our children's education and our seniors' health care.

Sincerely,

Ben Nesselhuf
Chairman
South Dakota Democratic Party

[PenDems (283)] Will you Help send a Message to Daugaard?

Governor Daugaard plans to take $16 million a year away from our schools, hospitals and nursing homes, and use that money for taxpayer funded giveaways to large corporations. We can stop him, but we need 16,000 signatures by June 27th to get this bill on the ballot. Saturday, June 18th is our last chance to defend our children, seniors and families in need. We have 15,000 signatures now.

Please, join us on Saturday, June 18 from 10am to Noon.  Meet at the Rapid City Post Office parking lot (500 East Blvd).  Kristin will be there with petitions, clipboards and all the help you need to gather signatures to put HB 1230 on the ballot.

PLEASE - this is our last opportunity to send a clear message to the top.

Contact the Pennington County Democrats for information about how you can help locally

South Dakota Democratic Party

Three weeks have passed since many joined the South Dakota Democratic Party to launch the campaign to refer House Bill (HB) 1230, a measure taking over $16 million a year from our schools and nursing homes to create a "large project development fund," to the 2012 general election.

Unless defeated at the ballot box, HB 1230 will take money away from funds for education and healthcare at a time when we're struggling to keep teachers in our classrooms and to keep nursing homes from closing because of the governor's budget mistakes.

WIth help from folks like you, our efforts have already yeilded great results:

  • 134 have volunteered to gather signatures
  • 28 online petition packets have been requested
  • 16 Community Petition Leaders have been designated
  • 11 favorable articles have appeared across South Dakota in newspapers, on radio, and in the blogosphere.
  • 2 Letters to the Editor have been written
  • 1 Governor has grown increasingly bashful.

Every day, dozens of South Dakotans are knocking on doors and gathering signatures at post offices, courthouses, and local events across the state. They are taking the first step to stop this bill in its tracks. And you can too!

Join your friends and neighbors to gather signatures in your community

In order to successfully refer HB 1230, we need to secure 25,000 valid signatures by June 27th, 2011 at 5pm.

Democrats, Republicans, and Independents are signing the petition to stop the Governor's effort to pit our children's education against economic development. They know that if we sacrifice education for economic development, we are actually at risk of losing both.

Every signature counts – whether you get it gathering signatures at the post office or by asking your friends over coffee.

Request a petition packet or sign up for a time to gather signatures in your town.

The petition packet and our website have all the information you need to know to gather signatures with confidence!

Thanks for your support,

Ben
Chairman
South Dakota Democratic Party

PS: Your help really can make the difference between a state that supports its children's education and seniors' health care or a state that cuts funding to schools and nursing homes every time Republicans want bigger corporate giveaways. Please join the many South Dakotans helping to stop HB 1230 today!
