[PenDems (190)] FW: Media list

Good Morning!
Folks, we need some volunteers to help with McGovern Days on April 10th.  I appreciate everyone has been busy helping circulate petitions, recruit candidates, etc, but please volunteer some time for the Friday evening reception!
Thank you,

Subject: Re: Media list

I'll check in with folks who said they would help. I think the main thing we need to do is get the ads for the program sold by April 2. Here is the flyer and a sign-up sheet for volunteers for other activities at the reception and SDDP events. Would you please pass around at the meeting tonight?  I'll follow up with everyone tomorrow. I'm on a drop dead deadline, client clamoring, and will probably be pulling all nighter, so won't be at meeting.

Thanks,
Suzanne

[PenDems (188)] Reminder

Good evening / morning:
Thursday evening, 7 pm, 922-1/2 E. St. Patrick, South door of the IBEW hall.  Monthly pendem meeting.
We need;
Delegates for the pre-convention at McGovern Days
Delegates for the State Convention in June, either a slate with one petition or single petitions for everyone.
We are completely out of time.  Bring any and all candidate suggestions and your cell phones.  We will recruit from the meeting.

I have inserted an email from Erin here which should answer you questions about delegates.
Please attend and bring ideas.
Thanks, Jeff

Hi Everyone,
Here's some info to clarify the Pre-Convention Delegates and Convention Delegate selection - without going into the nitty gritty.

DELEGATE INFO
Pre-Convention Caucus Delegates need to be elected through a public meeting before April 5
Convention Delegates need to be elected on the June Ballot
1. What if we have already had our County Meeting?
- You can send out an email to your county Dems asking them if they are interested in being a Delegate. The County Eboard can choose from those interested parties or have it be first come, first serve

2. What if we don't fill all our spots at our meeting?
- Same answer as No. 1
3. What do we do if our County Meeting is coming up?
- Notify your County Dems that you will be electing Pre-convention Delegates at the upcoming meeting. At the meeting, ask those interested to raise their hands or sign in. If there are more candidates than spots, then have the county party vote on the candidates.

4. Do County Chairs have to take out a petition for the Convention?
- No
5. How many petitions can a Registered Democrat sign?
- As many as the spots that are available - for most counties, that would be 3 petitions.
6. What do we do if no one takes out a petition?
- The County EBoard can appoint the remaining slots.
6. What are the delegates doing at each event?
- At the Pre-Convention Caucus, they are giving the backing of the SDDP to the Constitutional Candidates (AG, SOS, Auditor, Treasurer, School and Public Lands, PUC)

- At the Convention, they are confirming the Constitutional Candidates, choosing the Lt. Governor and creating the SDDP Platform.

**Please call with any other questions!
We're also sending out the attached press release today and an email to our big list will go out tomorrow.

[PenDems (187)] Action Alert: Help To Save South Dakota Public Broadcasting

For your urgent consideration I am forwarding the following message.
Jeff Nelsen, chair
Pennington County Democratic Party

Please help us to preserve public broadcasting in South Dakota!  Write to your legislators – ALL of them – NOW!!

Vicky Wicks, frequent contributor to SD Public Radio, writes:

Dear Friends: My sister sent me this, and since I have a deep and abiding connection with SDPB, I thought I'd forward it and ask you to do likewise, if you're so inclined. Even before working for SDPB, I listened to public radio and watched public TV, and as a crime victims' assistant and then print journalist, I relied on online recordings of legislative hearings so I could hear for myself who testified and what witnesses and legislators had to say.

The legislature tried to cut half a million dollars from SDPB a few years ago, and the public outcry was strong and loud. Please consider contacting legislators and letting them know how you feel about this. Thanks--Vicky

From SDPB:

Save South Dakota Public Broadcasting

Friends,

We understand times are tough, but it is in tough times that citizens of South Dakota take stock of all that is important in their lives. Even during the past year of economic crisis, THOUSANDS of South Dakotans continued to support programming on SDPB. And with the list of valuable services SDPB provides, it's no wonder. But in the final days of the legislative session it appears that South Dakota Public Broadcasting is under threat of a MAJOR FUNDING CUT, upwards of a half-million dollars. That equals about a 12% cut in state funding.

If you value South Dakota Public Broadcasting, NOW IS THE TIME to contact your legislator and make your sentiments known. Click here to find your legislator’s contact information.

The state of South Dakota provides funding for SDPB's statewide broadcast transmission system and infrastructure which is used to broadcast Television and Radio programming and web stream content online. State funds pay the electric bills, purchases and maintains broadcast equipment, pays salaries of SDPB employees and other costs. Money donated to SDPB, including money pledged during membership drives, is used to pay for programs and program-related services.

Like other state agencies, we have been cognizant of the budget issues and have been good stewards of your (and our) money. With significant cuts to our state funding SDPB’s ability to deliver programming to a statewide audience is critically hampered.

SDPB manages a vital, cost-effective communications network reaching the entire state. The network is a unique source for educational opportunities, available to all citizens. SDPB is also used for critical statewide communications – including the Emergency Alert System, Amber Alerts and Law Enforcement. No other broadcast service provides the kind of access that SDPB does to the election and legislative process, comprehensive coverage of South Dakota High School fine arts, academic and sports events, coverage of the Arts, and educational programming for young and old alike.

Think of the times you have enjoyed a program on SDPB, utilized an online resource from SDPB.org, learned something new at an SDPB outreach event... then pick up the phone or send an email to your state representatives in Pierre.

NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT!

Sincerely,

Julie Andersen
Executive Director, SDPB
